Natural Remedies For Insomnia

Are you looking for a natural remedy for insomnia?

cure for insomniaFirst lets be sure we all have the same idea about insomnia and what this word means. According to Dictionary.com "insomnia" means:

Inability to obtain sufficient sleep, esp... when chronic;
difficulty in falling or staying asleep; sleeplessness.

So insomnia is simply a word that defines the symptoms, it doesn't tell us what causes insomnia. To find a cure for insomnia we should at least learn what the cause is.

Did you know that insomnia is usually triggered by stress or anxiety of some kind? Sleeping pills are not the answer because they come with nasty side effects and they don't cure insomnia. They can even make it worse. Sometimes you get rebound insomnia when taking pills for long period. This sort of insomnia is not helped by pills.

So why not try a natural remedy for insomnia? With most things health related we try to find out what is causing the problem before we treat it don't we? But for some reason when we go the doctor about our insomnia we don't do this. When we can't sleep we are usually just given the treatment without any investigation or advice.

Have you experienced this strange phenomenon yourself? Your doctor simply hands you a prescription for some medication and that is that! You are often not told what might be causing your sleep problems, nor about natural remedies for insomnia.

Why do we accept this so called insomnia remedy? It isn't as if sleeping pills are going to cure your insomnia. They might knock you out for the night but that isn't a cure is it? When you stop taking the pills your insomnia is still there. What other condition would you accept that type of "cure" for?

This happens because doctors get virtually no training in sleep and insomnia-except from the drug reps that visit regularly. They don't have any idea how to cure your insomnia naturally. They can't even help their own sleep problems for heaven sake!

You need to tackle the cause of your sleeplessness and then your insomnia will cure itself naturally.

Insomnia can be caused by a number of things but it is mainly caused by stress and lifestyle factors. It can also be caused by medical conditions including sleep apnea or chronic pain.

Here are just a few things that cause insomnia:

  • Lifestyle
  • Food or drink
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Chronic pain
  • Snoring partner
  • Sleeping environment too hot or cold
  • Noise
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Jet lag
  • Shift work

Most likely it is a combination of some of these things. You can therefore end your insomnia by tackling them and a natural remedy is what is called for. Pills don't help with this!

Here is my story:

Meditation works. I am living an anxiety free, panic attack and depression free life today because of meditation. I had a post-traumatic stress condition due to a hurricane that hit my country.

The stress got so bad and as a result of that my supervisor at work had to ask "what was wrong" because the quality of my work fell. My manager got very concerned too when my daily performance was reviewed and considered low, she said: "this is out of character".
